Context
Context

Printify merchants frequently wanted to sell multiple products — such as t-shirts and hoodies with the same design - within a single Etsy listing.

The existing workaround required manual Etsy SKU mapping, duplicate listings, and tedious setup processes, creating operational friction and limiting scalability.

Research showed particularly strong demand among experienced Etsy merchants.

Challenge
Challenge

The MVP needed to simplify multi-product listing creation while working within Etsy API and fulfillment limitations.

Key constraints included:

  • same-provider fulfillment,

  • matching variant structures across products,

  • exclusion of personalized products,

  • shipping complexity across bundled items,

  • and pricing limitations within the MPL editor.

Primary research & insights
Primary research & insights

Competitor and industry analysis showed that most existing solutions relied on manual SKU mapping, external apps/embeds, or fragmented workflows. This created operational friction for merchants and highlighted an opportunity to build a more streamlined and native experience directly within Printify.

Merchant research also confirmed strong demand for combining multiple product types — such as t-shirts and hoodies — into a single Etsy listing.

Design approach
Design approach

The goal was to create a workflow that felt familiar to existing Printify merchants while simplifying the complexity of Etsy multi-product listings.

Instead of introducing a separate experience, the feature extended existing publishing workflows to reduce onboarding friction and improve adoption.

The approach focused on:

  • maintaining consistency with existing product flows,

  • reducing cognitive load,

  • clearly communicating Etsy and shipping limitations,

  • and avoiding overly technical interactions.

Validation

I conducted merchant interviews and surveys during beta testing to validate usability, gather first impressions, and identify friction points.

Beta testing showed that the feature helped merchants:

  • simplify SKU management,

  • reduce manual publishing work,

  • and improve multi-product listing discoverability.

The research also identified opportunities for future iterations:

  • support for personalized products,

  • combining products with different variant structures,

  • automatic transfer of descriptions and tags from single products,

  • and converting existing listings into multi-product listings.

Results

  • The feature contributed to a 2× increase in average order value

  • AOV ~20% higher than regular orders

  • MPL listings convert 10–20% better than regular listings (varies by segment)

  • Reduced workflow complexity for Etsy merchants

  • Established a scalable foundation for future multi-product listing iterations
